All you need to know about Blu-ray

Blu ray Disc or BD, which is often incorrectly called Blue-ray, Blueray, or Blue ray DVD, is a format for digital storage of large amounts of data, including high-definition movies and games. The format was created in 2002 by the Blu ray Disc Association (BDA)

Today's DVD format is widespread. There are millions of DVD players out there, and in many homes, there are even more than one. Modern computers have also nearly always built-in DVD player. But the DVD format days are numbered. New format will take over the market.

Higher resolution
DVD store the image in what is called standard definition, Blu-ray uses a high resolution image. Television broadcasts and standard DVD has 576 lines resolution, Blu-ray supports both 720 as 1080 lines. A progressive image (720p/1080p) shows all the information from the top and bottom of the screen, and an interlaced image (720i/1080i) created by the information interlaced together of two image halves.

To demonstrate the difference between Blu-ray and DVD, we have put up some
pictures showing the differences, see how it differs in the details ...

Not only is the image in high-resolution. The sound is also using high-resolution audio formats such as: Dolby True HD, DTS HD, PCM and Picture Perfect Sound

The benefits of Blu-ray
Blu-ray supports much higher screen resolutions than DVD, and with a screen that supports 1080p so find the vast majority of a big difference in picture quality between Blu-ray and regular DVD. All Blu-ray player is also compatible with CDs and DVDs.
Some players can also scale up the picture from standard DVD disc 576 lines resolution to 1080 lines progressive.

The main differences
A standard DVD with a storage capacity of 4.7 GB of data, and one with two layers approximately doubled. A Blu-ray disc holds the other hand, 25 or 50 GB.
This information is much more densely stored on Blu-ray discs, so to read the information, a special blue laser is used, compared to standard DVD in which a red laser is used, the blue laser read more fine print than a red because it has a shorter wavelength. this is why the new discs cant be played in a standard DVD player. But all Blu-ray player can play today's conventional DVDs and CDs.

BD-Live and Bonus View
Bonus View allows you to see different types of extras included on the films. Many Blu-ray player has a network connection that lets you connect to BD-Live trough your Internet connection. On BD-Live, you can find and download extras that are not on the discs, such as trailers, subtitles, or games.

Do you have a special TV to watch Blu-ray?
Not really. As long as players have an analog video output (for example, Scart, S-video or component)  any TV can show pictures from Blu-ray. But then you will not have high definition video quality. This requires a modern flat panel TV or projector with a digital HDMI input that supports copy protection (HDCP), and at least 720p resolution.

Can I copy a Blu-ray disc?
There is a software program called Any DVD HD. that allows you to save Blu-ray movie on your computer's hard drive, which is permitted for personal use, but so many movies are copy protected (HDCP) and it is when you are circumventing that it becomes illegal! (to copy you need a computer with Blu-ray player)

Will Blu-ray survive over time?
Most people who knows the branch agree that Blu-ray is the last disc format which we will use! It has already come and there is a big demand for movies and music that is sold and downloaded or streamed directly over the internet and saved to disk or streamed to your computer. With this in mind, we recommend that you look for a Blu-ray players that have either USB input or network Connection with support for file sharing from your computer, preferably both.

What do I need to get the best experience of Blu-ray?
First you need a Blu-ray player, there are many on the market in all price ranges to choose from. Look under the tab Blu-ray players in the menu, there you can read more about what to consider when selecting players!

Then you need a flat screen TV. LCD, LED, Plasma, or Projector, with support for "Full HD". This is an enormous market and it will constantly expand with new and better techniques and models, in the tab Television & Projector on the menu, we will help you find what suits you!

To connect the Blu-ray player to the TV set or projector is also needed a
HDMI cable. please note that it is not always included when buying players!

Now you have what you need to "watch" on Blu-ray movie, but to be able to enjoy Blu-ray in full you will need to also connect the player to an audio system, because your TV is unable to properly do justice to the powerful surround-sound movie is recorded with.
There are different types of surround systems, depending on how many speakers you have! 2.1, 5.1, 7.1 are some categories where 5.1 is now the most common, but 7.1 is on the way up. Even here, there is obviously also an infinite variety of brands.
Under the Audio tab in the menu, you can read more about this!

Now it's just to buy your favorite movies on Blu-ray, make popcorn and you have a home cinema in your living room.

Movies are best at the cinema - Cinema is best at home!
